Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

YAY! ("Reminders that cheer you on") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information we collect

Account information

  • Phone number — Used to sign in and verify your identity. We use Twilio Verify to send you a one-time code; Twilio processes your phone number to deliver the SMS.
  • Display name — A name you choose (e.g., "Sarah" or "Dad") so friends can see who sent them a reminder.

Reminders

  • Message text — The reminder content you write.
  • Schedule — Date, time, and repeat settings (e.g., daily, weekdays).
  • Voice recordings (optional) — If you record audio for a reminder, we store that audio when you send it to a friend. Personal reminders are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers unless you send them to someone else.

Technical data

  • Push notification token — So we can deliver reminders to your device, including spoken reminders when the app is in the background.
  • Device information — Used to ensure push notifications and app features work correctly.

Social features

  • Invite code — A unique code you share so others can add you as a friend. Other users can look up your display name using your invite code.
  • Friends list — Who you've added and who has added you, so you can send and receive reminders.

How we use your information

  • Provide the service — Create and deliver your reminders, including spoken push notifications.
  • Authenticate you — Sign you in with your phone number.
  • Enable friend reminders — When you send a reminder to a friend, they receive it (and any voice recording) on their device.
  • Improve the app — Fix bugs and improve performance.

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security policies.

Data retention

  • Account data — Kept until you delete your account.
  • Reminders — Stored until you delete them or your account is deleted.
  • Voice recordings — Stored for friend reminders until you or the recipient deletes the reminder, or your account is deleted.
  • Phone verification sessions — Temporary records used during sign-in; deleted within minutes.

Your rights

  • Access — You can view your profile, reminders, and friends in the app.
  • Correction — You can update your display name and manage your reminders.
  • Deletion — You can delete reminders at any time. To delete your account and associated data, contact us (see below).

Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data:

  • Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
  • Authentication uses phone verification via Twilio.
  • Access to your data is restricted by your account; only you and people you've added as friends (for reminders you send them) can see the relevant information.

Children

YAY! is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy and revising the "Last updated" date.
